Walk details for Oxford Walk location: Oxford – Port Meadow Walk Leaders: James McGinlay and Daniel Spencer (representing SFLS) Contact Tel No.: 0752 3322414 Walk Location Details: The Oxford walk starts at the north of Port Meadow, an ancient floodplain meadow/commonland of the River Isis (Thames). We strike across the meadow, towards the commoners allotments and then back towards the river again for the dogs to have a paddle. We cross the river at the south of the meadow and then walk up the opposite river bank up to Godstow lock and The Trout pub, a popular pub/restaurant with a dog friendly area and all the usual facilities. We then walk back to the car park along Wytham Lane. See the following link for walk details:- http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3598150 Walk Duration: approximately 2 hours Expected Terrain: Varies from muddy (bring wellies or very waterproof boots!), to parched and dry dependent on recent weather. Nearest Toilet Facilities: Toilets at car park at start/finish. Refreshment Facilities: The Trout at Godstow. Expected Hazzards: The commoners have grazing rights for horses and cattle. There is always a large (very large) herd of longhorn cattle here but they are very dog tolerant. Still, keep your dog on a lead when near the herd. Pic nics are popular along the Binsey river bank side. Lapphunds have been known to steal food which can be quite embarrassing!!
