Walk details for Lustleigh

Walk Location: Lustleigh, Dartmoor, Devon

Walk Leader(s): Jennifer Simmons (representing SFLS)

Walk Location Details:

The walk starts at the Pullabrook Woods, Woodland Trust, car park.  Take the A382 to Bovey Tracey.  At the second roundabout outside Bovey (the one with the fire station on it), take a left towards Manaton.  Follow the road towards Manaton.  After about 2km take a right turn at Reddaford Water towards Lustleigh.  The Pullabrook Woods car park is a little way along the lane on the left.  If you go over the old stone bridge, you've missed it.

Walk Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours, but this includes plenty of time for the dogs to play in the river by a bridge.   There is a shorter alternative of about an hour which would be better for puppies.

Expected Terrain: There is a very muddy section, so you'll need wellies or mud-proof boots.  But if it's cold, then it's usually frozen, therefore clean.  There are a couple of gentle hills and one section is quite rocky underfoot.

Nearest Toilet Facilities: None – this is Dartmoor!

Refreshment Facilities: Again, none, so bring a drink and a snack.  We can retire to a nice pub in Bovey afterwards.

Expected Hazzards: The walk follows the Bovey river so the dogs will almost certainly go into the water.  There are a couple of sections where there are sometimes farm animals and/or deer, so dogs are better on leads for these parts.
