Applications for the SFLS Judging list
If you wish to apply for inclusion on the SFLS Judges list, you will need to down load the SFLS Judging Questionnaire and send this to the Judges Sub Committee.
Meeting the criteria outlined by the SFLS does not mean automatic approval. The final decision for approval rests with the Judges Sub-Committee of the SFLS.
SFLS judges are asked to update their details every two years, using the above form and marked as UPDATE.
Judges List / Criteria
Applications for the judges’ lists should be submitted by Oct 31st of each year, when the list is approved it will be made available here.

Judging List Criteria
Meeting the criteria outlined in the GUIDELINES for the A1 – A2 – A3 – B and C lists does not mean automatic approval. The final decision for approval rests with the Judges Sub-committee (75% approved to award CCs) of the SFLS and approval by the committee of the SFLS.
These criteria apply to all relevant Lists:-
- All people to meet the criteria of a lower list before moving on to a higher list
- A condition of an applicant’s inclusion in the Society’s Judges Lists is that the applicant agrees to write a critique on their judging of the Breed and submits it to the canine press within the required time limit.
- For inclusion in A or B Lists, to have been observed judging by a representative of the club and a satisfactory report received.
- Requirements all to apply except under exceptional circumstances.
- The lists will be regularly reviewed and updated annually.
A1 List
For persons who have previously been approved by The Kennel Club to award CCs in the breed and have completed their first appointment and to have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (KC Policy)
A2 List
For persons who fulfil all the requirements for the A3 list and who have been assessed in accordance with Kennel Club requirements and accepted by The Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 list and to have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society
A3 List
For persons who the Club would support as being suitable to award CCs in the breed but not yet approved by the Kennel Club for inclusion on the A2 List (KC Policy)
A3 List (Breed Specialists)
Requirements include:
- Minimum of 7 years judging experience in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (KC Policy)
- To have judged at a breed club show/s and/or a breed club Supported Entry Shows, or the Finnish Lapphund at Championship Level, without CC’s (Minimum of 8 classes.) (Optional by Club)
- To have judged the breed at 4 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged a minimum of 25 classes. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged a minimum of 80 dogs. (KC Policy – number optional by Club)
- To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures. (KC Policy as of 1.7.2001)
- To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement. (KC Policy as of 1.7.2001)
- To have attended a Conformation & Movement “Hands-on Assessment” conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment. (KC Policy as of 1.7.2005)
- To have attended at least one Breed Specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and assessment where applicable. (KC Policy as of 1.7.2001)
- To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book (Save in exceptional circumstances). (KC Policy)
- To have stewarded at 12 Shows. (KC Policy)
A3 List (Non Specialists)
Requirements include:
- Minimum of 7 years judging experience in any one breed (to include 5 years in this breed) and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (KC Policy)
- To have judged at a breed club Show/s and/or a breed club Supported Entry Shows, or the Finnish Lapphund at Championship Level, without CC’s (Minimum of 12 classes.) (Optional by Club)
- To have judged the breed at 5 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged a minimum of 30 classes in this breed. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged 90 dogs in this breed. (KC Policy – number optional by Club)
- To have awarded CCs in at least one other breed. (KC Policy)
- To have attended at least one Breed Specific judging seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and assessment where applicable. (Optional by Club)
- To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs of any breed when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book. (Save in exceptional circumstances). (Optional by Club)
- Overseas judges must be approved to award Challenge Certificates (or their equivalent) for Finnish Lapphunds in their native country, and have demonstrated an involvement in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.
B List
Indicates persons who have been approved by the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society to judge the breed at Open Shows or at Championship Shows without CCs where there are more than 3 classes.
B List (Breed Specialists)
Requirements include:
- To have 3 years experience owning and exhibiting in this breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged 8 classes of this breed at Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged 20 dogs of this breed. (Optional by Club)
- To have attended at least one Breed Specific judging seminar and passed an examination where applicable. (Optional by Club)
Or
To have fulfilled criteria 1 & 4, and been accepted on any other Pastoral Breed A or B List
B List (Non Specialists)
- Minimum of 5 years judging experience in any one breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society. (Optional by Club)
- To have judged 10 classes of this breed at Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs. (Save in exceptional circumstances) (Optional by Club)
- To have judged 25 dogs of this breed. (Optional by Club)
- To have attended at least one Breed Specific judging seminar and passed an examination where applicable. (Optional by Club)
Or
To have fulfilled criteria 1 & 4, and been accepted on any other Pastoral Breed A or B List
C List
For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the breed and have the support of the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society.
Roll Of Honour
The names below were approved by the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society and the Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates to our breed at Championship Shows but no longer wish for judging appointments for Finnish Lapphunds.
