Did you miss our first Southern Finnish Lapphund Society Open Meeting and Fun Day on 1st July 2007?
Read all about it here.

Lapphund Walks:

These dog walks are an opportunity for you and your lapphund(s) to get to meet up with other lapphund owners for a relaxing and fun walk. Great for talking about dogs, meeting like-minded lapphund lovers and generally socialising. A group of lapphunds is an impressive sight, and we will attract some attention from other walkers, so please remember that we are ambassadors for the breed and “poop scoop” where necessary and follow local park guidelines. You, and not The Southern Finnish Lapphund Society, are responsible for the safety and control of your dog. Beware, most walks will involve being near farm livestock, or wild deer at some point, and lapphunds find this tempting!

The walks are not arduous, but the full walk would not be suitable for immature pups.

Please contact me, Daniel Spencer, on 01865 779243 or chairman@sfls.org.uk, no later than the day before the walk to check any change in details. Whilst I am reasonably hardy, a walk in horizontal sheet rain across a wind-swept moor will never appeal! By default, I intend to be present at each walk. Aim to be present at the walk start at 11am and the walk will begin at 11:15am. Bring your own food and water for your dog!

Sunday 14th September

Goring-Ferring
This walk will be a jaunt along the seafront and beach of sunny(?) West Sussex between the Sea Lane Café at Goring-by-Sea (http://www.goring-by-sea.com/eateries.htm#sealane | Map of location) and the Bluebird Café at Ferring (http://www.goring-by-sea.com/eateries.htm#bluebird)

Depending on the tides we will either be walking along the beach top promenade path (with access to green areas and the pebble beach) or on the beach itself (which is a mixture of sand and rocks) if the tide is out. In this instance your Lappy will be able to enjoy belting madly along a wide expanse of dog friendly beach (no leads necessary), digging in the sand, paddling in numerous pools, rushing out to the waves or Kaiju’s particular favourite game chasing the numerous Greenshanks that dare to invade her personal beach!

I will supply info a week beforehand on the tide situation…if tide is out I suggest waterproof footwear to take advantage of the beach to the full.

The joy of this walk is a café at either end so we can meet at the car park beside the Sea Lane Café at 11.00 (see map above) and then spend 45 mins or so walking up to Bluebird (which is extremely dog friendly) enjoy a drink and a snack if required and then ramble back for another drink etc...
