Finnish Lapphund Calendar 2008

Following on from Graham Cossey’s brilliant idea of having a Lapphund calendar, we are now happy to announce that SFLS will work with Graham to produce such a calendar for 2008. As you will appreciate, time is a little tight, and so it looks like it won’t be done in time for Christmas, but should be ready in January. We expect to be able to sell it to you for around £8, which will include p&p (however, we will need to add postage to overseas orders; this will be charged at cost). The calendar will feature photos of Lapphunds...and YOU will be able to decide which ones we feature. This is NOT limited to SFLS members and SFLS member dogs. Anyone who has a photo of a Lapphund can submit it and anyone who has an interest in Lapphunds can buy it!

What we need from you now is to email your favourite photo(s) of Finnish Lapphunds to calendar@sfls.org.uk. We will then post them all on the SFLS website (www.sfls.org.uk), where you will be able to vote for your favourites! At the end of the voting, the top 12 photos will be used within the calendar, and the one photo with the most votes will feature on the cover!!

Please note that there are some rules regarding the submission of photos, which we will have to follow strictly:

1. All photos will be vetted for quality! This is NOT about the photography, but about whether or not the photo is of a high enough resolution to be printed. Unfortunately, we will have to reject any photos which we do not believe will print well.
2. You MUST have permission from the person who took the photo to submit it. We will ask you to include with your submission the name of the person who took the photo and if this is not you, will require you to confirm that you have their permission to use it.
3. You MUST have permission from the owner(s) of the dog(s) in the photo to submit it. We are happy for you to submit photos that you have taken of other people’s dogs, but we must ask you to confirm that you have their permission to use it.
4. The photos must feature a Finnish Lapphund. Well, it is a Finnish Lapphund calendar! We are happy to see Lappies from both UK and abroad!
5. You may submit ANY number of photos.
6. The photos might be edited. We reserve the right to edit photos by cropping etc to fit the format of the calendar. We will, however, always let you see the edits before the photos are included for you to agree to the edits. However, should you not agree, this may result in the photo not being included in the vote.
7. Red eyes or stray leads? We are happy to help out with other editing. If you have the perfect photo, but have red eye or unwanted objects in the photos, please feel free to submit them anyway, and we shall do our best to edit them.
8. Photos must be submitted by 13th December. This will be the final cut off date.

In summary: Please email any photos to calendar@sfls.org.uk. Please send one email pr photo. Please ensure you include in the email the name of the dog(s) in the photo (and confirmation that the owner has permitted you to submit it if it is not you) and the name of the person who took the photo (and confirmation that they permit you to use it if it is not you).

When all photos have been collated and approved, they will be uploaded to the SFLS website. We will send you an email and post on the Yahoo Group to confirm this. You will then have a short period to vote. The rules for voting will be:

1. You can vote only once.
2. You may vote for up to 12 favourite photos (in no particular order)
3. We will only include one dog from each household in the final calendar. If more than one dog from one household features in the top 12, the top scoring dog from that household will be included and the others not. The next photo in scoring order will then be included and so on.
4. If there is a tie in the number of votes, the editors of the calendar (Graham Cossey and Pia Reynolds) will have the final say as to which photo will be included.
5. The editors of the calendar will choose the order of the photos within the calendar.
6. We will announce which photos will be included before you have to confirm any orders for calendars.

It would be helpful if you could indicate if you might be interested in buying such a calendar whether you submit a photo or not. If you could send an email to calendar@sfls.org.uk (or mention on the Yahoo Group) if you would be interested, it would help in getting an idea of numbers. It will NOT be binding, but will give us an idea of how many to get printed up. This will be a limited edition calendar!

Please start emailing your photos NOW! We want lots and lots, so keep them coming! If you have seen a great Lapphund photo from a link on the Yahoo Group, why not contact the poster to ask if you/they can submit it. There are lots of lovely photos from our walks and shows.

Please email the FULL SIZE image to us. If you receive a ‘mailbox full’ message from your email to calendar@sfls.org.uk, please resend your email. The mailbox will be emptied every 10 minutes or so during the day and evening, so it will only be temporary!
